Candacraig – Why Here?

Candacraig – Why Here?

Posted on: June 7, 2017

Some clients when considering Candacraig as their selected exclusive use property for their company retreat to a special occasion and celebration ask “What activities are on offer” – well here are my recommendations as a taste to make every trip memorable business or pleasure…..

ACTIVITIES AT CANDACRAIG

ARCHERY – A fun sport for all abilities and fitness levels.  You will spend some time learning the basics of archery before pursuing more challenging elements.

CLAY SHOOTING – We can offer ‘Simulated Game Shooting’ be it driven pheasant, partridge or grouse. You could choose from birds ‘flushing’ to a duck rising or even some wily pigeons.  Each drive will involve a considerable number of targets put over the guns from continually variable traps; depending on your own wishes, the frequency can be increased or decreased from flush to flush.

CROQUET – Take time out when the sun shines to enjoy a tactical game of croquet on our manicured croquet lawn.  All equipment, complete with clearly documented ‘how to play’ rules for the novice are freely available for your enjoyment.

CYCLING – A number of mountain bikes and helmets are available for guests to use, or, of course, you are welcome to bring your own!  Enjoy a relaxed cycle ride on the quiet country roads or head into the nearby hills and take in the stunning scenery along the many estate and forestry tracks around Candacraig.

FALCONRY – exciting combination of flying demonstrations, along with handling of different species, including eagles, owls, hawks and falcons can be provided within the grounds of Candacraig.  The demonstrations can be tailor-made depending on your programme.

FIRE BRIGADE CHALLENGE – The team will be required to locate the various parts of a water pump, assemble the pump, prime it and draw water from our loch to ‘put out the fire’.  This challenge needs the group to work together, to form a plan or strategy, and then put it into practice for a successful conclusion.  Qualified instructors will be on hand at all times to ensure fair and safe play, and score the team on its’ effectiveness.

FISHING – Enjoy the peace & tranquility of the banks of the River Don, and try to net yourself a salmon or brown trout on one of the most famous rivers in Scotland.  Candacraig has fishing access to approximately 11 miles of the River Don, with excellent pools a short, easy walk or drive from the grounds of the house.   The Don has a reputable standing with anglers not only for salmon and sea trout, but also as one of the finest brown trout rivers in Scotland, if not Europe.   We can also arrange for salmon and trout fishing on the nearby, world renowned River Dee where an experienced Ghillie will be on hand to guide you through the techniques and which flies to use.

LAND ROVER NAVIGATIONAL CHALLENGE – This is like a treasure hunt with off-roading involved.  Starting with a short brief, at Candacraig the day’s activities can be tailor-made to your requirements with either a driver or self-drive organised ahead of time. The day can include some target shooting, forest orienteering with maps and compass or bushcraft (how to build an outdoor fire).

WHISKY TASTING – All tastings can be tailored to suit your party – Your host will entertain and educate you, taking you on a journey discovering the history of Whisky and the many different tastes of Whisky from all over Scotland. You will learn how to nose and taste Whisky, whilst learning about the origin of the world’s most historic drink.
