Review:
“My husband organised a 3 night stay for a big birthday of mine. Now that I have come back down from being on cloud nine, I thought it time to review this wonderful house and gardens.
From the moment you arrive, it is clear that this house is something special. Buzzing in at the security gates, you then drive up a long driveway to the house, which is hidden from view by huge rhododendron trees.
Slowly, a white gothic style castle dominates the sky line and you’re warmly greeted by Amelia, the manager and Luke the groundskeeper – two of the loveliest people, who no request was too much bother for.
Entering the double doors of house, the standard of renovation undertaken by the current owners, Davide and Ivana, very quickly becomes apparent. It is a masterpiece of antique complimented by modern finishes. Your eyes will continually span as you seek to take everything in. It is breathtakingly stunning, a theme which continues throughout the house.
My family and I adored exploring the house – 3 days really wasn’t enough to appreciate the space and tranquillity of the house and gardens. The gardens in themselves were spectacular, with Luke explaining that they are hope to re-wild some of the land and things will look quite different in the future. Whatever he has planned, we are sure it’ll be wonderful.
We also managed to use the gardens to the sides of the house to enjoy some organised games; which included axe throwing, velcro football, giant Jenga and a bouncy castle – great fun for a range of ages. The possibilities are endless really!
We employed a private chef for dinner one evening, alongside butlers who provided a cocktail masterclass – the two businesses worked alongside each other seamlessly and found the house easy to work in.
If you are thinking of staying in Scotland, you really should consider Tay River House, for a taste of luxury with guaranteed privacy and relaxation. We are counting down the days until we can stay once again, it has stolen a piece of our hearts and allowed us to create lifelong memories”
Inside the house, guests will find themselves transported to another time. The period details, such as the wood panelling, antique furnishings, and ornate fireplaces, create an atmosphere of luxury and elegance. However, modern amenities have been added to ensure that guests have everything they need for a comfortable and enjoyable stay. The house features a fully equipped kitchen, spacious living areas, games room and comfortable bedrooms.
Bolfracks House welcomes guests if they wish to enjoy their own self catering but we also have an array of wonderful chefs whom we can put you in touch with to arrange part or full catering. The local area also have some lovely eateries in which you can sample whilst visiting this lovely region of Scotland.
Bolfracks House sits at the heart of about 40 acres of  glorious gardens and grounds. Set within are sensitively designed and beautifully maintained formal gardens and about 2 acres of woodland garden. There has been an ornamental garden here since the mid-18th Century but the garden originates from the 1970s and is the work of the late Mr J Douglas Hutchison. The stunning gardens are renowned for their impressive collections of rare and unusual plants, including a superb display of rhododendron, azaleas, acers, daphnes, heaths, phyllodoces, polygolas, oldfashioned roses and an array of herbaceous perennials. The stream garden was planned and constructed by Ian Lawrie of Dundee in 1928 along the course of the Bolfracks Burn. It was restored and replanted between 1975 and the present day. Facing north, with fabulous views over the Tay Valley.  The summerhouse was built around 1930 for Mr Hutchison and his brother and sisters as children and has been completely rebuilt in 2018. The family mausoleum in the burial ground contains the tombs of two members of the Menzies family and their wives, who originally developed the garden. The property passed out of the hands of the Menzies family in 1806.
For special occasion groups staying at Bolfracks the beautiful gardens simply complement a wonderful experience not to mention your own private tennis court.
The history of Bolfracks House dates to the 17th and 18th centuries, when it was owned by the Menzies family. The estate was later sold in the late 18th century to become part of the Taymouth Castle Estate.  In 2020, Athel and Annie Price sold their beloved estate to Davide Fregonese and Ivana Todoric, who fell in love with it at first sight during a brief visit in the summer of that year. The couple is dedicated to preserving the garden as per the original designs of Douglas Hutchison. They have also made some updates to the house, such as adding modern amenities while still preserving its historic character.
We can work with our clients to recommend the array of places to visit and activities to enjoy in our lovely location of Highland Perthshire such as:
