What is Destination Management Hire and why so important to work with them?

DESTINATION MANAGEMENT COMPANIES HIRE ENCOMPASSES AGENTS THAT REGULARLY USE EXTERNAL VENUES FOR THEIR GROUP NEEDS, SUCH AS:

  • UK Destination Management (DMC) companies working with a direct corporate client overseas for their incentive trip requiring overnight accommodation and full itinerary with catering and activities
  • UK Destination Management companies working with an agent overseas for an incentive trip for their end corporate client requiring again all of the above
  • International Management company or sometimes referred to in the USA market as Incentive House working with a direct corporate client overseas for their incentive trip requiring overnight accommodation and full itinerary with catering and activities

The reason for the ‘incentive’ trip can be for a range of reasons:

  • Top achievers in a company such as the Sales team
  • Top clients of a company
  • Top Distributors of a product for a company e.g. beauty product to whisky distributors

The incentive trip will commence organisation from the DMC the minute they arrive in your country at the airport or mode of transport.  The DMC will then commence a proposal for:

1. ground handling which is the transfer from the airport to the end destination

2. overnight accommodation

3. private lunches, dinners and entertainment

4. programme of sightseeing or activities

Therefore to attract this market it is all about the destination and how you present your property and the range of what can be offered both on site and off site in the local area.  How close are you to the Airport.  If there is over an hour in transfer time, then where are the nice spots to stop en route for a meal or activity to break the journey.  Think of yourself as the tourist information person and sell sell sell your destination.

Also do not presume when you are dealing with agents with offices located close to your venue that they will know all you can offer on property and in the surrounding area – you have to tell them of this.  You might also consider the hire of your venue for lunch only or dinner only venues.  This way clients can view the facilities you have to offer and consider using the accommodation on future occasions if applicable.
